A Healthy Workforce Equals A Healthy Economy: Closing the Health Insurance Gap for Working Age Adults in SC

Tuesday, February 20, 2024, 3:00 – 4:30 pm,

Bluffton Public Library, Multi-purpose Room

Please join us for an informative presentation by Lynne Eickholt on how SC is one of only 10 states that has refused to expand health insurance coverage for working age adults, even though more than 90% of the cost would be covered by Federal funds.  Key discussion points will include:

-SC's bottom quartile ranking on many health metrics and unfortunate top ranking on burden of family medical debt.

-The overwhelming research that shows how closing the insurance gap improves health, including reducing  mortality, and would be a significant boost to SC's economy.

-Why SC's leadership initially refused to expand insurance coverage, but current evidence should dispel their concerns.

-The CoverSC Coalition dedicated to closing the health insurance gap, their strategy and what you can do.

Lynne Eickholt started her professional career in SC and retired here after her role as the Chief Strategy Officer for MassGeneral Brigham - the largest health system in Massachusetts and a strong supporter of universal health insurance coverage.  She serves as the Communications Committee Chair for CoverSC, the Coalition to expand health insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act.
